The role of a social media executive is ever-changing. No two days are the same but there are some tasks that we do daily! People think we just scroll through TikTok all day but in reality, there are multiple tasks that we need to do to complete our jobs successfully. Come with me, HeadRed’s social media executive, as I talk you through what I do on an average day in the life of a social media executive.

Morning

  • 8:00 – 8:05: Make a cuppa! You can’t start the day without a cup of tea, so my first (some would say most important) task is to make myself a drink.

  • 8:05 – 8:20: Catch up on any missed interactions or messages from the night across all social accounts. We don’t want our clients’ customers or potential customers waiting too long for a response!

  • 8:20 – 8:45: Review what tasks were completed yesterday and make a plan for the day ahead.

  • 8:45 – 9:45: Catch up on some industry updates. I do this by reading relevant blogs and having a look at some industry-related Instagram accounts latest posts.
Scrolling through social media accounts
  • 9:45 – 10:15: Scroll through clients’ social media accounts. This is to interact with followers by liking posts, following accounts, checking and replying to messages and responding to comments. I check social accounts multiple times daily to keep on top of messages and interact with users.

  • 10:15 – 11:15: Plan content for a client. I normally plan one client at a time so I can fully get into the mindset of the brand. Planning consists of researching the latest trends, creating a mock-up Instagram grid, writing effective captions, looking at optimal posting items and hashtag research.

  • 11:15 – 12:15: Plan for a different client. It depends on the client how far in advance I plan as posting frequency differs for all our clients.

Afternoon

  • 12:15 – 12:30: Quick scroll through socials to interact with users before heading off to lunch

  • 12:30 – 13:00: Lunch break!!
Filming TikTok content
  • 13:00 – 13:45: Film and edit TikTok content. This has to be one of my favourite things to do in the office! I’ll have a quick scroll on TikTok for some inspiration and then get to it. I love jumping onto TikTok trends and making them prevalent to HeadRed or just to have a little fun around the office. I used the TikTok app to edit content as well as InShot and CapCut.

  • 13:45 – 14:00: Add ideas to my list of TikTok videos I want to film.

  • 14:00 – 14:30: Research blog topic ideas. I research competitors and the latest news for my client’s industry to see if there are any potential blog topic ideas.

  • 14:30 – 14:45: Check in on socials to replay to any messages that may have come through over lunch

  • 14:45 – 15:00: Review engagement rates on some of last week’s posts. It’s good to keep up to date on what content has performed well as this will give me a good indication as to what content is resonating with the audience and what is not.

  • 15:00 – 15:30: Optimise a client’s Pinterest page. I’ll check the performance of the post uploaded in the last 30 days and start creating a new board that people can view when looking for ideas and inspiration

  • 15:30- 15:40: Review today’s plan to see if anything needs to be carried over to the next day. I’ll tackle anything I didn’t get around to do first thing tomorrow.

  • 15:40 – 16:00: Schedule posts. I use Hootsuite to schedule content so I can see all of our client’s scheduled posts in one place.

  • 16:00: Home time! I head home to an evening full of scrolling through TikTok!
